Meet The Daycare That Was Here First.
Licensed home daycare in Laurel, Maryland, a short drive from the Konterra Drive corridor near the ICC. Open since 1994 — back when the whole area was still fields.

What's Actually Here, Not What's Coming
Lisa's Rascals is in Laurel, Maryland — 14310 Greenview Drive, ZIP 20708. Not Konterra. Half of Konterra is still being built as I write this. My program isn't — same house, same routine, same person running it since 1994.
From the Konterra Drive corridor near the ICC (Route 200), it's a short drive down Route 1 or Route 198 into Laurel proper.
I opened Lisa's Rascals in 1994 with a small group of children and, as the neighborhood tells it, a very large heart. Konterra didn't exist yet. Neither did most of the families moving in now.
If you're new to the area and comparing infant care, compare one number: caregiver-to-infant ratio. Maryland's minimum for licensed providers is 1 caregiver per 3 infants under 18 months, a standard set by the Maryland State Department of Education's early childhood office. I maintain that ratio or better. A center running 1:6 under a different license category means your newborn is sometimes waiting, and the American Academy of Pediatrics is clear that ratio is what predicts how much individual attention an infant actually gets. That's not a small thing at four months old.
This isn't for everyone, and that's fine:
- You want a large center with dedicated enrichment staff and multiple classrooms
- You need overnight, weekend, or shift-based hours outside 7am–6pm
- You'd rather have a brand-new facility to match a brand-new neighborhood
If any of that describes you, a bigger center closer to the new town center will probably serve you better. I'd rather say that here than after a tour.

What Families Are Saying
"Lisa's Rascals has been a blessing for our family. My daughter absolutely loves going every morning. The teacher is warm, patient, and truly cares about each child's growth."
"We've had two children go through Lisa's Rascals and both had amazing experiences. The center is clean, Lisa is outstanding, and I wouldn't trust anyone else with my children."
"I was nervous about dropping my son off for the first time, but Lisa made both of us feel so welcome. He came home every day excited to tell me what he learned."
What Konterra Parents Ask First
Are you actually in Konterra, or just nearby?
I'm in Laurel, Maryland, a short drive from the Konterra Drive corridor near the ICC (Route 200). I don't have a location inside Konterra itself, and I'm not going to pretend I do.
Why does caregiver-to-infant ratio matter more than price?
Maryland sets a 1:3 minimum for infants under 18 months in licensed family childcare, and I hold that ratio or better. A center running 1:6 under a different license category means your baby sometimes waits. Price differences rarely show up as clearly as ratio differences do.
How long have you been doing this?
Since 1994 — before Konterra existed as a neighborhood. More than fifty families across thirty-two years.
What hours are you open?
Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM. No overnight or weekend care.
What ages do you accept?
Six weeks through twelve years, across five programs: Infant Care, Toddler Program, Preschool, Pre-Kindergarten, and After School Care.
Are you licensed by the State of Maryland?
Yes. I'm licensed under COMAR 13A.15 as a Maryland Family Childcare provider, and I renew health and safety certification every year.
